2007-2008 winners of the Amadou Diallo Foundation Scholarship at Borough of Manhattan Community College.

The following are the five 2007-2008 winners of the Amadou Diallo Foundation Scholarship at Borough of Manhattan Community College:

5. Thiero Abdoulaye Sow

Each student will be awarded $1,400 per semester towards his or her tuition. As President Antonio Perez had comitted to the Amadou Diallo Foundation inc, BMCC has matched the award for our students tuition to be covered at the New York City rate.

Ibrahim Mahmood is from Ghana, the eldest in his family and the first to attend college. He is a Respiratory Therapy students who is completing his third semester with a GPA of 3.7. He works full-time as a dialysis technician and he is enrolled full-time. He aspires to become a cardiopulmonary specialist working with children. He hopes to be able to restore smiles on the faces of his patients and their families.

Thiero Abdoulaye Sow is from Guinea. He is a second semester Business Administration student with a GPA of 3.92. He is enrolled for 15 credits this semester. He aspires to earn a master's degree in financing and investment. He is a peer mentor and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for two-year colleges.

Georgette Gyamfi is from Ghana. She is a single mother who is majoring in nursing with a 3.89 GPA. She is currently in her 3rd semester. Her hope is to eventually become a hospital administrator. She sees herself as compassionate, caring, responsible, and honest when it comes to taking care of patients.

Alpha O Bah is from Guinea. After being discouraged by so many people saying that he is not college material, he sort to prove them wrong by enrolling at BMCC. He is majoring in Computer Science with a 3.84 GPA. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for two-year colleges. He is also a peer mentor, where he help students who have difficulty with their courses work. He aspires to become a computer engineer.

Oumie Sanyang is from Gambia. She is a second semester nursing student with a GPA of 3.25 after completing 52 credits. She is enrolled for 12 credits this semester. She aspires to further her education at Hunter College. She is a peer mentor, and volunteer her time at her local community center educating teenagers about AIDS and HIV, teenage pregnancies and preventing STD's.
